Graphic Designer I admire

Shepard Fairey is a well known figure of contemporary art. He is a graphic designer and social activist who participated in the street art movement involving artists such as Banksy and Mr Brainwash. His artwork contains social issues relating to humanity. I admire this chosen artist because not only he is one of the most iconic artists of urban art but one of the most influential, he explores a wide range of today’s matters such as political matters to climate change. I also admire the art style he chooses as its very similar to commercial art, he makes his portrayed subjects looked idolised and are given importance in each of his studies. I also like the use of colour. Although it consists of a few colours the palette he chooses are closely linked to the colour wheel and the background colour in his prints are usually contrasting which complements the colours used.

‘Make art, not war’-2019 Is a piece created by Fairey inspired by the famous 1960’s mantra “Make love, not war” to demonstrate the need for creativity is more important than war.
‘We the resilient’, Shepard Fairey 2010 is a series of prints that refers to how minorities are at the end spectrum because of Donald Trumps racist campaign. The series include different minorities to make a statement against Trump. This speaks to people to be open-minded and remind people of their common humanity.
Shepard Fairey-‘Guts not glory’ is a part of Adobe’s “Honor Heroes” campaign. This screen print depicts a health care worker to show awareness their acts of courage, bravery and selflessness that has helped us through the pandemic which although their service is beneficial is also now vital at this moment.
