3) Maya Modelling

For this exercise I was introduced with the Maya software modelling app. It is a way to generate 3D assets into television, games and commercials to create professional, realistic looking characters. The aim of this task is to design a space escape pod. Before starting I took a load of examples on the internet of space rockets & escape pods.

Here is the process of me designing a simple rocket ship. As someone who is new to Maya I didn’t want to over complicate it. I began with using a sphere then enlarging & stretching the sphere to give me the body of the rocket. I then added a cube inside the rocket base to attempt to create wings. Figure 3 is where I restarted the shuttle to attempt to make it look more realistic by shaping the object to look more like a rocket. I added a cylinder asset then merged it into the rocket ship to create a window. I then used the union tool to merge all the pieces together.

After adding further details such as the wings I went exported my design onto Substance Painter to begin with the texturing process.
