After looking at traditional surrealist artists I have began looking at a few examples of artists who paint using a headset. This is to give me thoughts and ideas for what I would like to create. Another reason is because recently artists are using this technology to find new ways of creating art. By looking at artists & their talents I would be more likely to use more techniques they have used therefore improving my upcoming artwork.
Rosie Summers
Having worked and studied as a 3D animator Rosie is also a virtual reality artist. Rosie is a live VR performer who has worked with multiple high profile clients, such as BBC studios and The British library. Summers wows her clients and viewers all around the world. As an animator at XR games Summers had enjoyed working with VR releases such as Angry Birds Movie 2 VR: Under Pressure and Zombieland VR. She has made it her mission show the power of augmented reality and virtual technologies. Rosie convinces crowds in prestigious festivals and leading masterclasses the power of VR, onboarding hundreds from the medium to the masses.
Rosie creates a range of 3D portraits and illustrations using VR. On Rosie’s webpage you can see the clear talent she has in her portfolio of paintings. When Rosie paints an art piece she is able to record her surroundings, she is able to demonstrate her skills and techniques use to make her breath-taking artworks. She also has time-lapse videos to show the progress and the amount of time Rosie takes to create a full creation. I think Rosie is a good example since I am going to be able to paint in VR for my major project and I could take inspiration from her artwork and then put it to my own. Artists like Rosie show that there is more to a VR headset than just gaming.
Tristan Eaton

Tristan Eaton is an artist that has collaborated with Tilt brush Artist in Residence. This is where Google has recently teamed up with various artists. This is to develop the tool and better understand the new form of art creation. Tristan is best known for his large-scale murals and is one of the most prominent American street artists working today. From New York to Shanghai Tristan free hands his public artworks with spray paint which is a nod to graffiti culture. He honours traditional muralism through his thoughtful and dynamic subject matter & compositions. He also uses traditional & modern techniques that manages to make harmony in his artworks. You can see in Tristan’s creations that he has took his mural artworks onto VR, creating abstract & unique artworks to life on VR. You can see on image 5 where the mask creation he has made on VR is a clear reference to his graffiti murals he has created in real life. You can see for his art style he leans towards bright, vibrant colours with some elements of a cartoon-ish design that you would find in a comic.
Scott Campbell

Another artist who google has collaborated with would be Scott Campbell. Scott is the creator of the online series of the GREAT SHOWDOWNS and Double Fine Action Comics. He was an art director & concept artist at Double Fine Productions on games such as Psychonauts and Brutal Legend. Campbell also creates illustrations, comics, kids books & video games. Some of his comics and projects have appeared in galleries and publications around the world. You can see in his VR artwork Scott has made his work 3D and includes a storytelling like feel with Tilt Brush like what I would see in a kids storybook as it is fantasy themed and gives a sense of adventure to it. You can really see in the images of 9,10 & 11 he has put lots of effort to make his illustration come to life.
After exploring these examples of VR artists they have shown that there is a new way to explore with digital worlds and how it can easily immerse you into the simulation, it is like stepping into a new reality. Instead of creating art by hand or by computer you are able to create art in a new dimension.
