Figure 1 – Rough sketch storyboard I have made. Figure 2 – La Memoire Elementaire, Lithograph, (1976)
For my metamorphosis I have made a storyboard for the animation process on Maya. Although my sketches are rough I wanted to capture any of my thoughts on what would make a good story plan to transfer onto my animation. I began with researching Alex Calder’s abstract paining’s then mimicked his style in my drawings. The first image shows a constellation of planets & abstract galaxies with shapes, the second image shows a shape in the background with the group of planets & shapes merging together. Third image shows an explosion then the fourth sequence shows the planets transforming into lightbulbs. The empty box with text on the 6th block is feedback my other classmates have given me during a feedback session.
Although the storyboard has given me a good understanding on how to show my metamorphosis I believed it can be improved. I asked for feedback from the other students during class & I scribbled down any ideas that would benefit my storyboard. I then used all these ideas to draw & create a better storyboard. To make my storyboard more clearer I have worked on designing another finalised sketch, I have taken inspiration from the first storyboard
Figure 3 – I have made another storyboard using advice from my other peers to create a better storyboard. Figure 4 – Another storyboard concept I have created for my Maya animation. I have created this on 6 slides on Adobe Illustrator, drawing digitally would help me to make my storyboard more neater & gives a better options to express my design.
Image 3 shows a different version to the first image, It shows a kids bedroom with glow in the dark ceiling stickers. It then focuses on the ceiling and the stickers start to move and align with each other. The metamorphosis is when the ceiling stickers transform into one of Calder’s abstract art planetary pieces.
For Image 4 I have created a storyboard on Illustrator for another idea. I have went for a metamorphosis where a light bulb turns into planets of the solar system in space. The storyboard goes: The first slide shows a child’s bedroom with a lightbulb hanging in the air, the second image shows the lightbulb close up. The third slide shows the lightbulb is changing colour that resembles the texture of a planet. Fourth slide shows the bulb fully transforming into a planet with the previous lightbulb fading. Finally the fifth planet shows the atmosphere changing to being in space with the planet being aligned with the other planets in the solar system. The final slide shows the end credits.
